Change Date & Time
Available for: Single or Multiple Files, Single Folders

Change Date & Time lets you view and change the creation and/or modification date of one or more files, or change the creation date for a single folder (in Windows 2000 and XP only).

  1. Right-click any file or folder icon, and click Change Date & Time from the ShellToys XP menu.

  2. In the dialog that appears, you'll see two fields: Created and Modified.

    • If you right-clicked a single file, these fields will show the creation and modification dates of that file.

    • If you right-clicked a single folder, the creation date of the folder will be shown. (The modification date controls are disabled, because the modification date of a folder cannot be changed.)

    • If you selected multiple files, both fields will show today's date; you can see the current date and time of any of the files listed by clicking its name.

  3. If you simply wanted to view the dates of a single selected file or folder, press Esc or click Done to close the dialog.

  4. To change either of the dates, enter the required date and time into either of the fields and click the Change button beside it. If multiple files were selected, the new date will be applied to each file shown in the file-list above. (You can remove files from this list by selecting them and clicking Remove File.)

Dates are changed only when you click one of the Change buttons.
